2012 Assembly of Catholic Foundations

From the Prophets to recent papal teaching, the Church has a consistent message: welcome the stranger (Mt 25:35). Let There Be No Strangers Among Us, the Assembly of Catholic Foundation’s annual conference, was held May 2-May 4, 2012. The conference explored human rights through the lens of immigration.

Maria Odom, executive director of Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), provided the keynote presentation, drawing the connection between Catholic social teaching and our response as Catholic foundations to immigration.

Anna Rodriguez, founder and CEO of the Florida Coalition against Human Trafficking, gave the closing presentation on human trafficking, which affects those most vulnerable including immigrants.

Through panelists and site visits, we learned about program models and different issues that affect immigrants, such as immigration policies, healthcare access, school readiness and integration, and wage theft. Group discussion sessions enabled us to learn from one another and what’s working in our own communities.
