Greater Cincinnati 2013 Capacity Building Workshops -The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, in cooperation with SC Ministry Foundation, offers capacity building workshops on varying topics designed to help nonprofits build the skills and resources necessary to become self-sufficient.  Programs include topics such as: board development, business development, fundraising, evaluation, and communications. All classes are held at The Health Foundation’s office.

A Spirituality Called Compassion: Understanding the Inner Life of Doing Social Good will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013 at SC Ministry Foundation for invited executive leaders. This morning program will be led by Jack Jezreel, Founder and Executive Director of JustFaith Ministries.

Past Programs

How Millennials Connect, Involve and Give, presented by Derrick Feldman, was held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 for participants from invited nonprofit organizations. This complimentary webinar, co-sponsored by SC Ministry Foundation and The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, helped participants understand how to communicate, work with, and find Millennials to support and volunteer for their organization. Through stories, images, pictures, and actual responses from Millennials, Derrick Feldman provided practical opportunities for participants to start their own Millennial engagement program. He also defined the various levels of Millennial engagement and how their organization can develop meaningful programming to attract this generation to their work.

2012 Assembly of Catholic Foundations, Let There Be No Stranger Among Us, was held on Wednesday, May 2- Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Embassy Suites Cincinnati- RiverCenter in Covington, KY for invited guests only. This conference explored human rights through the lens of immigration in the United States. Through panelists and site visits, we learned about program models and different issues that affect many immigrants, such as immigration policies, healthcare access, school readiness and integration, and wage theft.

The Board’s Role in Fundraising Webinar, presented by Susan Meier, BoardSource, was held on  April 16, 2012 for nonprofit board members and executive leaders. This complimentary webinar, co-sponsored by SC Ministry Foundation and The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, helped board members understand their special role in all stages of fundraising so that the full board can carry out its responsibility to support the organization. The session broke down the core pieces of fundraising strategies, structures, roles, and techniques into manageable tasks that help board members – including those who are reluctant to ask potential donors for contributions – understanding fundraising on both a strategic and concrete level.

Building Systemic Bridges Out of Poverty was held Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at SC Ministry Foundation. This was SC Ministry Foundation’s 2012 affinity meeting which was designed for executive directors plus 3 to 4 others from each organization. Jodi Pfarr, a dynamic facilitator, presented practical strategies for integrating research about the mental models of poverty, middle class and wealth into the ways we serve our clients.

Our Mission Urges Us to Excellence was held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 for board members and executive leadership from invited nonprofit organizations. At this gathering, attendees discussed the new ways they are being called to carry out their mission and explored several important questions that define each organization now and into the future.

Price Hill Oversample was held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Seton High School. Jennifer Chubinski, Director of Community Research for the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, presented information from this year’s Greater Cincinnati Community Health Status Survey specific to Price Hill.

Linking Money to Mission for the Long Term was held on Friday, September 16, 2011 for invited organizations only.

Communal Hope In Insecure Times was held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in Cedars Auditorium at the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati Motherhouse.  This program was designed for executive leaders, staff, teachers, and board members of nonprofits.  This workshop explored what it takes to create an alternative community that is focused on the common good. We worked together to understand our fears, embrace insecurity together and find ways to engender communal hope that can be used in our nonprofit work and shared with others.

Women, Poverty, & Public Policy was held on Friday, October 8, 2010 for Greater Cincinnati grantee nonprofit organizations working with women and children, SC Ministry Foundation board/committee members, and selected local funders and partners.   A panel of four presenters presented local, state, and national perspectives on poverty affecting women, as well as important legislation that is currently in Congress.  After the presentations, an open discussion and dialogue took place.

Effectiveness in Catholic Education was held on Thursday, September 9, 2010. This program focused on ensuring and measuring effective Catholic school education.  Topics included were communication and marketing, faith formation, and affordability and sustainability.  The program presenter was Richard Burke, President and Senior Executive Consultant for Catholic School Management, Inc.
