Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), based in Washington, DC, started a capacity building project that will allow community-based organizations to deliver quality immigration services more effectively. CLINIC has worked intensely with four of its more than 185 diocesan and other affiliated immigration programs through the capacity building project. Components of this work include: implementing best practices on managing an immigration program, growing and sustaining programs, and fully complying with Board of Immigration Appeal (BIA) requirements for providing legal services.

Four programs participating in the capacity building project are Catholic Charities of Tennessee, Colorado Springs, Las Cruces, N.M., and Southwestern Ohio. These programs are gathering the documentation necessary to obtain BIA recognition and accreditation, training staff in providing legal counsel to immigrants and conducting more advocacy.
